Access To God

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.

1 John 5:14

Technology is a blessing in so many ways. The ease at which we have access to friends and family has increased over the years. With the click of a button, we have access to what is happening in people’s lives. Certain platforms might make us feel popular because we have “followers.” We can interact in chat rooms, share photos, and instantly connect with people all over the globe. Technological advancements have made us easily accessible any time, day or night.

Such easy accessibility has some downsides. Sometimes we forget the passwords to get into the accounts and we must jump through security hoops to get reconnected. If we forget to renew a subscription to certain services, we might lose the ability to contact others. Differing time zones can create communication challenges. We can also experience fatigue from excessive social media in our lives.

It is not so with God. He does not set his availability by day or time. There is no designated place with a good signal. There are no dues or fees required to receive a connection. The voicemail box is never full. And God most certainly never grows weary of us. If we proclaim Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we have immediate access to him. We can pray. Sing praises. Meditate on his Word to learn more of him.

Sometimes when we are feeling our worst, reaching out to people is difficult. Or sometimes people might not be available. But God is always accessible and ready to hear us.

God does nothing except in response to believing prayer.

God, thank you that you know and hear my voice. Thank you that you stand ready to respond in grace and mercy. Help me to never forget you are there. Amen.
