The Secret Of God

The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things which are revealed and disclosed belong to us and to our children forever, so that we may do all of the words of this law.

God is all knowing, ever present, all powerful, and the creator of everything. We are limited and finite. We could spend our lives dedicated to learning and yet never attain full knowledge. God has given us the Bible and chosen to share some of his mysteries with us. But parts of the Bible we will never fully understand. In fact, some things we could never understand because they are simply hidden from us. We cannot comprehend the mind of God.

Have you ever asked God why something happened? Why this timing? Why this job loss? Why this illness? In our limited knowledge, no answer seems good enough to justify our suffering. God is the only one who knows the beginning from the end. He is the only one who can answer our why. Most times, he chooses not to provide the answer immediately. Instead, he walks with us through the trial, teaching us to lean on him and build our faith.

Although the reason why God allows discomfort into our lives might remain a secret, we can trust he is in full control. Philippians 1:6 promises that we can be “confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

When we enter a season of difficulty and the purpose remains a mystery, instead of asking “Why me?” we can try asking “Why not me?”—and then be patient, watching as his plan unfolds in our lives.

It is important for God to arrange our circumstances in such a way that we eventually have to face ourselves.

God, I don’t pretend to understand why my life has unfolded the way it has. But I can begin to understand that under your vision, nothing is by accident. Please help me to rely on your knowledge, not my own. Amen
