Adjusting To The Light

Adjusting to the Light

Imagine you are one of those released from a life of seeing only shadows and are able turn and face reality. At first, you turn to face the fire and the sun, and you’re barely able to see for the pain of the light. Your eyes are only used to the shadows, and the light is difficult to adjust to.

As you move from shadows to reality, you may initially feel a sense of insecurity and even blindness. For a time, you’ll feel that you are worse off than you were before, that you can’t function, certainly that you can’t make sense of what’s around you.

But what’s real won’t matter if you can’t see it for what it is. You need the light both to reveal what is truly real and to dispel the shadows you’ve mistaken for reality. Be prepared for a time of transition when you may experience some pain and confusion.

Eventually, your eyes will adjust and you’ll see everything you need to see.

“I was blind but now I see!” —John 9:25
