Choose Relationship

Choose Relationship

What distinguishes heaven from hell?

Heaven is about eternal relationship—God in blissful, intimate harmony with humankind and humankind with each other. And hell? Some say fire and outer darkness. But the chief torment will also be defined by relationship. Utter aloneness. Forever separated from any relationships that matter.

God calls to us our whole lives, inviting us to taste heaven in the here and now—to know harmony with Him and harmony with each other. But some of us will choose hell in the here and now. We will choose to be alone. Although surrounded by others, we have no relationships that matter. If we remain alone until our final breath, God mournfully honors that choice as we pass into eternity.

You don’t have to be alone. You aren’t meant to be alone. No matter the hell you’ve known, choose relationship and your heaven can begin right now.

The only air of the soul, in which it can breathe and live, is the present God and the spirits of the just: that is our heaven, our home, our all-right place. —George MacDonald
