Make Sure Your Matter Matters

The word matter is used a lot in this book. But it’s used in other areas of thought as well.

In science, matter is anything that’s physical, anything that takes up space. Scientists and engineers admire matter that has integrity, matter with a structural makeup that is solid. When matter doesn’t have that kind of integrity, it’s considered unstable, like a condemned building or an explosive chemical.

For your character to matter, you also need to have integrity. Your substance needs to be consistent and solid through and through. Who you appear to be in public should essentially be who you are in private. What you say should be consistent with what is true or honest. When you make a promise, you should actually deliver.

Not only do you matter, but you actually are matter! For your matter to matter, you need to pursue a life of integrity.

The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity. —Proverbs 11:3
