Marriage
Marriage
You can’t believe this person is yours.
Every fairy tale cliché is running through your head. Your shining knight. Your precious princess. There couldn’t be a more beautiful wedding gown. Who could be more handsome in that tux? The candles. The music. It’s all too perfect.
Well, the flower girl did toss her bouquet and run crying into her mother’s arms. Your father must have had a cold for all that loud sniffing. The preacher mispronounced your last name, and you both tripped over your vows too many times to count. At least you got the kiss right.
We want marriage ceremonies to be perfect. But life isn’t ceremony, and no marriage is perfect. The best marriages are both beautiful and messy, full of good intentions and bad manners.
But it’s your beauty, your mess, no one else’s. Forsaking all others and fighting for a lifetime of oneness. That’s what matters.
A man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. —Genesis 2:24
