Traveling Companions

Once you step out on the road, people will likely join you on your adventure.

They’ve been called out themselves. They had to overcome their fears and step out their own doors. Some people you meet may not be heading in the same direction. But you should welcome the company of the ones who are.

Maybe you meet someone at your first college class and she becomes your study partner. You tell a friend about your visit to the homeless shelter and he asks if he can go with you next time. You meet a couple at the church picnic who invite you to their house for dinner. Someone at your recovery meeting looks at you with understanding eyes, offers you a cup of coffee, and sits down with you to listen.

The unknowns are still the unknowns. But the journey feels safer and more doable when someone starts walking with you.

They help each other and say to their companions, “Be strong!”
