What Does Not Disappoint

So what was the perspective Viktor Frankl chose that helped him endure? What did he choose to focus on?

Hope.

Frankl entered the camps with his beloved wife, but they were separated. And he could never be sure what happened to her. So if there was someone out there who loved him and whom he loved in return, he had a reason to live. His faith in this little uncertainty gave him hope.

You too can cling to this little uncertainty.

If there is even the smallest possibility that there is a God out there who deeply loves every stitch of your existence, then you can have a hope that will never disappoint.

Like Frankl, you have the freedom to choose your perspective. No matter how trapped you are in your circumstances, you have the freedom to hope.

We . . . glory in our sufferings, because . . . suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit. —Romans 5:3–5
