What Is Beyond You

What Is Beyond You

It was the world of your childhood.

The street on which you lived wasn’t a street; it was a frontier to be explored. The house two blocks down was the subject of rumor and unsettling stories. The woods nearby were full of strange creatures and thrilling unknowns. You strained your neck to stare at grown-ups, and they seemed large enough to burst beyond the frame of your vision.

Most everything you saw in the world was beyond you, which was both a fearful and wonderful thing.

Then you grew up and were told that being an adult means having all the answers, understanding everything you see, and managing all your responsibilities and relationships with precision. Knowing in your heart that such a life is impossible, you retreated into the safety of the superficial.

But your childhood heart understood it: the life that matters is beyond any of us.

Return to your sense of wonder.

“Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” —Matthew 18:3
