Catch The Foxes

Catch all the foxes, those little foxes, before they ruin the vineyard of love, for the grapevines are blossoming!

WHEN LITTLE THINGS PILE UP in a relationship, the weight of all those small things becomes a big thing! Then when the one last “straw” is added, it breaks the back of the relationship just like a camel that can’t carry one more thing. The king in Song of Songs wants to make sure that doesn’t happen.

The king’s wife grew up in the country on a vineyard. And they had small rodents (more like rats than our foxes) that would burrow underground and eat the roots of the vines. Although everything initially seemed lush and green in the vineyard, because the plants had no root system, whole sections of the vineyard would turn brown and die.

The newlyweds didn’t want this to happen to their relationship. We all have little foxes that can ruin relationships:

• Holding on to negative attitudes
• Using harsh or critical words
• Taking others for granted
• Not valuing the other person’s time, talent, or treasure
• Having unspoken or unrealistic expectations
• Not dealing with your own past baggage
• Never saying, “I’m sorry”

There are a myriad of small things that can pile up. Instead, if you feel hurt or offended, say to that person, “I value our relationship too much to let this come between us. I need to share how I feel.”
