A Spectacle of Glory #218
Read: Isaiah 54:1
Isaiah 54 is a favorite chapter for many people—right from the first verse: “Sing, barren woman . . . burst into song, shout for joy.” Yes, it’s a comfort for couples who have never been able to conceive children, but the passage speaks of much more than physical barrenness. There are times when we all feel barren. Times when our prayers feel lifeless, our love is cold, our faith seems weak, and we see no fruit in our lives. When we’re in such a condition, what should we do? Burst into song and shout for joy to God. And if you are looking for something to sing about, choose Jesus. Even when there doesn’t seem to be much to sing about as you look at your own life, you can focus on, sing to, rejoice in, and shout aloud to your Savior. In Him, you will find life for your prayers, love, faith, and—the best part—power to bring forth glorious fruit.
Yes, Lord Jesus, I can always, always sing about You. You are the Desire of Nations, the Bright Morning Star, the Lion of Judah, and the Rock of Ages. You have saved me from judgment and hell and opened the door of heaven for me. How could I be barren? You have made me an eternal child of the King.
