A Spectacle Of Glory #252

David, while still a young warrior and on the run from his enemies, stopped running long enough to issue a strong challenge to all comers: “Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.” A taste is just a brush across the tongue—a brief, fleeting impression of a full meal. In the same way, we may have tasted that the Lord is gracious, but we really have no idea how good and gracious He is. We’re like the Israelites, who only tasted one cluster of grapes from the Promised Land they were about to enter. They had no idea how much abundance awaited them on the other side. Friend, we are still on this side of the Jordan, tasting God’s goodness one grape at a time. But one day we will enter that Promised Land, and it will take an eternity to experience its true abundance.

I have tasted Your goodness again and again, Lord Jesus. I have tasted the sweet counsel and consolation of Your Holy Spirit. I have heard the Father say, “You are mine. You are loved.” Even so, I know this is a meal of samples—a grape here, a bite of bread there. I long to taste more. Someday soon, I will.
