A Spectacle Of Glory #288

Read: Hebrews 11:14–16

“I Left My Heart in San Francisco.” Remember that old Tony Bennett classic? The last line speaks about coming home to the city his heart longs for. And in a way, that’s the Christian’s song, isn’t it? When we came to Christ, the Lord freed us from the god of this age. You used to be kidnapped and brainwashed, made to think you were really a citizen of enemy territory. But then the King rescued you and shocked you out of your spiritual stupor. And now? You realize this world is not your home, and your heart longs for the city above. For now, though, the king tells us to stay here in enemy territory—with all its hardships and dangers—and live like an alien in love with the homeland. Friend, don’t leave your heart in San Francisco—or any other city on earth. Wherever you live, let your heart walk the streets of heaven. And make it your aim to bring as many others to heaven with you as you can.

Father, I read in the book of Hebrews about believers who long for a better country and a heavenly city—and that is my heart too. How I praise You for such a hope! Help me to speak to at least one person today about my hope in Jesus.
