A Spectacle Of Glory #337

We have no idea—not even the smallest conception—of what we owe to our Savior’s prayers for us. The Bible tells us Jesus lives in heaven to intercede for us.^a And one day, when we look back from heaven’s highest hill to see how God has led us, we will marvel at what we see: accidents diverted . . . wounding words silenced . . . mercy covering deep offenses . . . Holy Spirit encouragement coming swiftly to our aid in moments of great need. We may tire of praying, but Jesus doesn’t.

Even before Satan begins to tempt, Jesus forestalls him by His prayers, just as Jesus did with Peter. In today’s Scripture, Jesus tells Peter that “Satan hath desired to have you.”^b In other words, our Lord nips Satan’s desire in the bud before our old enemy can clutch us. And it’s all because Jesus prays for us—nonstop—before the Father’s throne.

Lord Jesus, I’m kneeling beside You today before the Father’s throne. I am praying and interceding for loved ones, friends, and hurting ones; dark, needy places in our world; and so many of Your sons and daughters who are even now undertaking risky kingdom ventures. Like You, dear Lord, I want to live to make intercession.
