A Spectacle Of Glory #350

Read: Psalm 40:1-3

Amy Carmichael was a missionary to India who rescued hundreds of little girls from temple prostitution. Midway through her ministry, she suffered a terrible fall and became bedridden for the final twenty years of her life. In one of her letters to a friend, Amy wrote, “A day or two ago when everything was feeling more than usually impossible, I opened on Psalm 40 with its new song. ‘He hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise.’ How like Him it is to ‘put’ it there. We couldn’t find it for ourselves, so He puts it. And when He puts it we can sing it.”^a He gives us words of praise that we can sing in His strength. So when your enemy comes like a flood, see it as a time to prove your faith in Christ and live out the song God puts in your heart. Remember, if He puts it, you can sing it.

Lord Jesus, I know Amy is in Your presence right now, perhaps with a song of faith and praise transformed into a mighty anthem for angelic choirs. How good You are to place words and melodies into my heart that I could have never found or sung in my own strength.
