A Spectacle of Glory #64
Read: Isaiah 53:3, NLT
Sometimes those who deal with disabilities feel like no one understands their heartaches and struggles. They may even wonder if God Himself understands. The answer is, “Yes, He does!” He understands because He is God, but He also understands through personal experience. Jesus, the Son of God, also endured a disability through His life on earth: His was sorrow. Today’s Scripture reads, “He was despised and rejected—a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief.” The suffering of earth became His lifelong disability. The shadow of the cross fell over every day of His life. The author of Hebrews writes that while Jesus walked on earth, “he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears.”a Jesus dealt with lifelong sorrow, knowing what awaited Him on the cross. He understands disability and carrying heavy burdens. You can open your heart completely to Him.
Lord Jesus, You truly are my High Priest. You have experienced everything I’ve ever faced. You even carried the shame and sorrow of my sins, paying my penalty, though You had no sins of Your own. You sympathize with my pain and discouragement. You count every one of my tears. Draw me close to You today, and be my Shelter.
