The New Testament teaches that crowns will be given as rewards when we arrive in heaven. Some people just shrug their shoulders at this. They’re not excited at all. We’re happy about the thought of no more tears and new, strong resurrection bodies that will last forever—but crowns? Unless you’re a child, you’re probably not jumping up and down at that thought. But maybe you should be, because the Bible makes much of the crowning day—even mentioning specific crowns, such as the crown of life, reserved for those who persevere under trial, and the crown of rejoicing, a reward for believers who introduce others to Christ.^a Heavenly crowns aren’t just rewards for a job well done on earth; crowns are a glorious consummation of the job itself. And don’t think only of literal gold crowns encrusted with jewels. Think of a lovely mark of the Lord’s favor enhancing your experience of eternity.

Father God, the book of Revelation speaks of a day when the elders will lay their crowns at Your feet, before Your throne.^b I can’t even conceive what that moment will be like, but I’m so glad You shared it with us in Your Word. You love to share Your glory, but it all returns to You—where glory belongs.
