A Spectacle Of Glory #96

Read: Revelation 2:9–10

There are Christians today, perhaps not far from where you are right now, who live in nonstop, intractable physical pain. Some are barely able to function. And yet, even in their suffering, they keep their trust in God and their attitudes bright. Yes, these friends long for the day when there will be no more pain in heaven. But in the meantime, they hold on to Jesus with a positive spirit. Could they be part of the persecuted church we read about in Scripture? Consider this: Satan and his demonic host see us when we suffer, and they needle us, prodding and poking us to doubt God, recant our faith, or slip into bitterness and despair. But like persecuted believers through the ages—right down to today—who have lost their lives, we must not deny Him. True, we may “lose our lives” every day through pain and suffering. But if we hold on to the Lord’s hand through everything, He has promised a crown of life sweeter than life itself.

Deliver me today, Lord, from the unseen persecution of the adversary and his evil army. When I feel overwhelmed, set my feet in a wide and spacious place. Your name, Lord is a strong, strong tower. Here I come! I’m running through the open door. I’m taking refuge in You.
