What Tiggers Do Best

Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

Excitedly Obedient

I love Winnie the Pooh! In Disney’s Winnie the Pooh films, anytime Tigger is asked to do something, he responds with “That’s what Tiggers do best!” For example, one time Roo asks him to climb trees, and he responds with, “That’s what Tiggers do best!” He sings, “The wonderful thing about Tiggers is Tiggers are wonderful things!”

I think we can learn a lot from Tigger about being excitedly obedient in the ordinary. When you are willing to go and be obedient even in your everyday moments, that is when God will make it a miraculous supernatural moment for His glory. When God asked who would go speak His words, Isaiah said in the presence of the Lord, “Here I am, send me” (Isaiah 6:8). In the same way, God is asking each of us to obey, and we begin to walk in our purpose and truly discover freedom when we obediently surrender to where God is wanting us to go.

The wonderful thing about you is that you are a wonderful thing. Your life is knitted with purpose, and you are a child of the one true King. You are truly, truly, truly, truly loved, loved, loved, loved, loved! But the most wonderful thing about you is that God uniquely made you to reach people for His name’s sake in a way that no one else can.

Reach Your World

In Mark 16:15, Jesus says, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” This command can potentially be intimidating and overwhelming, and sometimes we won’t even attempt it because we feel incapable of reaching the whole world. But you see, your world is wherever you currently are.

If you are in your home, your delighted honor is to see what chores need to be done and to do them, because that’s what children of God do best. You can leave surprise notes of encouragement throughout your house, because that’s what children of God do best. When you are at school and someone is sitting alone at lunch, you can sit with them, because that is what children of God do best. You can hold the door open and let others know how beautiful they are and how loved they are and how awesome they are, because that is what children of God do best. When you see trash on the ground, even though you didn’t put it there, you can pick it up, because that is what children of God do best. When you are in the coffee shop, you can leave Scripture written on the receipt and pay for the person behind you, because that is what children of God do best. God is love, and by loving people extravagantly, you introduce God to them.

Tell Others

When you are being the hands and feet of Jesus to people, you will get many different responses. I remember one time I was sitting in the airport telling a beautiful lady about Jesus. She told me that I was wasting my breath and that she didn’t believe. I have talked with people for hours on end about how awesome God is, and I have had people tell me straight faced that they do not think the love of God is for them. There are people all around us in the world wherever we currently are. Some know Him and love Him, some have heard about Him and don’t think that He applies to them, and some want nothing to do with Him, but Jesus said, “Go and make disciples” (Matthew 28:19). This command is so comforting because God gave us His Spirit, the Holy Spirit, to be with us always and to lead us as we go and make His name known everywhere to everyone, one person at a time.

God blesses us so that we can bless others, and that is what children of God do best. We give hugs, we smile, we mourn with those who mourn, we listen and give with a cheerful heart. As children of God, we will go out into every square inch of the world and make the name of Jesus famous by how we love, how we live, how we serve, how we speak, and how we do what children of God do best.
