God . . . has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.

God has “planted eternity in the human heart.” This means that in our earthly existence, we instinctively know there is something missing—that there’s more than just this life. Because we are created in God’s image, we have eternal value, and nothing but the eternal God can truly satisfy us. He has built into us a restless yearning for the kind of perfect world that can only be found in heaven. He gives us a glimpse of that world in the beauty of nature that we experience here on earth. Someday he will restore the earth to the splendor it had when he first created it. Eternity will be a never-ending exploration of its glory in a perfect relationship with God.
