Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

Colossians 3:2

Our lives are busy and full. And when we focus on that the whirlwind, our stress levels rise, and our faith shrinks. Paul reminded us of a simple cure: choose to focus our thoughts on heaven and the kingdom of God. If we let ourselves be preoccupied with eternal things, the non-eternal things will fade in importance.

Of course we should not be “so heavenly minded that we’re no earthly good.” But when we focus on the eternal, we actually become better equipped to love the people in our world. When we remember that God sees everything we do, even the good things we do in secret, we may find ourselves even more motivated to seek out ways to bless the world for his glory.

By setting “your mind on things above”—by focusing on Jesus and learning his ways—you’ll be better equipped to love people with God’s love.

Lord, today I choose to think on heavenly things so I can be of good use to you on this planet, amen.
