Beautiful Word Devotional #153

“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.’ ”

Matthew 25:23

In the story quoted today, we learn about kingdom math from a story about a man who entrusted his three servants with five bags of gold, two bags, and one. Jesus taught that those who are faithful in very small things will find their responsibilities multiplied. Those who shrink away from doing what God asks may lose all that they have.

The goal of the Christian life should be to be entrusted with more and more responsibility. Thankfully, though, God doesn’t give us all this responsibility up front, or we might crumple under the weight. Instead, God steadily increases our capacity to do more. Only when he sees that we’ll have good attitudes when we’re doing unnoticed things will he entrust us with more to do for him.

Take courage! Know that your heavenly Father sees all the ways you have served him. Trust the training ground he has prepared for you.

Lord, help me be faithful in small things so you can entrust me with more—all and always for your glory, amen.
