Beautiful Word Devotional #175
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Matthew 5:3
The word kingdom brings to mind silk and satin; feasts and wine; wealthy and influential people. But Jesus described a completely different kind of kingdom here. It’s an upside-down one where the rich are (spiritually) poor, the (spiritually) poor are welcomed into the kingdom, and the meek inherit everything. What a beautiful reversal our Lord accomplished for all of us. Yes, including you.
Have you ever felt small or unworthy? Welcome to the kingdom. Have you battled money woes? Welcome to the kingdom. Do you feel “less than”? Have you noticed all the “perfect people” out there and felt unqualified to follow Jesus? Again, welcome to the kingdom.
Hurting and broken folks have no trouble entering Jesus’ realm because they clearly recognize their great need for him. So, welcome to the kingdom, you beautiful saint! You are loved—and always will be. You may feel poor in spirit, but you are rich in God’s kingdom.
Lord, thank you for showing me that I need you and for welcoming me to your kingdom, amen.
