Beautiful Word Devotional #180

One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life.

Psalm 27:4

The house of the Lord represents God’s presence with his people. God’s house was first the portable tabernacle of Moses’ day and then, during Solomon’s reign, the glorious temple of God. Inside the temple was the Holy of Holies, and there God’s presence rested.

The psalmist, David, could imagine nothing more wonderful than being in the house where the Lord himself dwelled. That was, in fact, his only desire: he sought after nothing except being in God’s glorious presence.

Thanks to Jesus’ death on the cross, we can do what David sang about. Forgiven of our sin, we can enter into the presence of our holy God. We also have been blessed with the indwelling of God’s Holy Spirit. Therefore, God is present with you—within you—all the time. What an astounding, surprising, eternal-life-altering truth!

Lord, may I recognize your presence with me every moment of every day. May I hear your voice and—out of loving gratitude for your death on my behalf—obey, amen.
