Beautiful Word Devotional #182

“I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.”

Joel 2:28

Joel’s prophecy points to Pentecost, the birthday of the church in Acts 2 when the Holy Spirit of God was poured out on the believers. With this appearance of the Holy Spirit, the disciples spoke in other tongues and, later, would prophesy and see visions of God.

The apostle Paul, for instance, met Jesus when he was traveling to Damascus to arrest and kill followers of Jesus. Paul’s vision of the resurrected Lord transformed Paul from murderer of Christians to Christian teacher, pastor, and apologist.

Isn’t it amazing that the same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead and who turned the ancient world upside down through these first-century Christians is the same Spirit who resides in you right now? What beautiful potential we all have to impact the world for our God.

Lord, thank you for the Holy Spirit. Please use me—empowered by him—to make a difference in this world for you, amen.
