“I AM WHO I AM.”
Exodus 3:14
Imagine hearing God speak these five words, declaring his power and might and majesty. As Yahweh, he exists eternally and can therefore easily come to our aid when we are feeling weak and helpless.
Consider, for instance, what God did to deliver the Israelites from an impossible situation. Pharaoh pursued them on one side with a mighty army of chariots. On the other side was a vast sea. And yet, God, the great I Am, did the impossible: he created a pathway through the sea, and his people crossed on dry land.
Later in Israel’s history, God also made the mighty walls of Jericho quake and fall to rubble. He opened the womb of a virgin and brought forth his Son. And he raised that Son from the dead so we could walk through our own Red Sea of death to God himself. The gap between our holy God and us unholy human beings seemed unbridgeable, but Jesus made himself the bridge for us.
Lord, you are the Great I AM, and you love me. I know you will take care of me today, and I thank you, amen.
