Beautiful Word Devotional #205
The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:23
No one likes death. This Scripture reminds us that the outcome of a sin-filled life is just that. We “earn” death because of our sinful nature.
This, on the surface, seems like terrible news. Born into sin, we can’t help but live for ourselves, chase after number one (us!), and do things that hurt us, others, and God.
Thankfully, the word but stands in the middle of this verse. Yes, it’s true that we are sinners, doomed to die. But God has resolved the terrible dilemma by sending Jesus Christ. Sinless, Jesus took our place on the cross we deserved so that we can escape death and instead enjoy eternal life with him.
This is a gift. We don’t deserve it; we haven’t earned it.
But because of God’s outrageous generosity, you can relax today knowing that your life eternal is secure in his capable hands. Death doesn’t have a grip on you; life does.
Lord, I am awed by and grateful for your generous grace toward me. Thank you for sending Jesus to die for my sins, for delivering me from death to life, amen.
