Beautiful Word Devotional #220

God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out.

1 Corinthians 10:13

The first three words of this verse set forth a truth we can build our lives on: God is faithful. The sun rises and sets. He keeps your heart beating. You have forgiveness through Jesus and a gospel purpose in life. God is utterly and always faithful.

And your faithful God will help you when you face temptations by providing a way of escape. God is never behind the temptations, but he always enables you to resist them or escape them.

We have to want to be helped in resisting those temptations, however. Look back on your life. When have you accessed the path of escape from temptation that God gave you? And when have you ignored it? How did you feel in the aftermath of each decision?

The Lord wants good things for you—freedom from shame, for example—and that’s why he provides you with an escape from every temptation you find yourself facing.

Lord, when temptation comes my way, please help me recognize the escape you provide and use it, amen.
