Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.

Colossians 3:23

What were some of the first jobs you held? No matter what kind of work we do—paid or volunteer, a special project or an everyday chore, full-time or part-time—and whether we’re passionate about it or not, we are always to work as if God were our boss.

That means as God’s representatives, we do our work with excellence to bring him glory. We are to be wise stewards of this job God has provided. We can work with diligence and creativity, reflecting how God made us in his image. We can pour out our lives for the people we’re working with, loving them with Jesus’ love and doing our job with a servant’s heart. We can view the profession as place to serve God and further his kingdom.

Wherever you work, know that God has placed you there strategically. Shine for him and serve him there. Remember that you are working for him.

Lord, I want to work heartily for you, whatever I’m doing, at home or in an office. And may my work give you glory, amen.
