Beautiful Word Devotional #338

The Almighty will be your gold, the choicest silver for you.

Job 22:25

Job was the righteous man whom God allowed Satan to sift. Job lost his family, his wealth, and his health when God gave Satan permission to take them away.

In light of these losses, Eliphaz the Temanite urged Job to “submit to God and be at peace with him” (v. 21). Those words must not have been easy for Job to hear in light of his desperate situation. Yet this advice has merit: we cannot see God as being more valuable than possessions, wealth, health, or family until we submit to him.

This world offers lots of flash and hype, so we too easily buy into the notion that financial security will bring peace. That’s a complete deception. Ultimately, only God provides security.

Can you truly say God is more important to you than the blessings he provides? Do you value him more than his gifts? Doing so brings incredible freedom and peace.

Lord, I want to live with you being more important than anything I have or want. Please work in my heart, that I may value you more than the shiny things this world offers, amen.
