Beautiful Word Devotional #349

I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

Philippians 4:13

The apostle Paul had learned “the secret of being content in any and every situation . . . whether living in plenty or in want” (v. 12), and today’s verse is that secret.

Relying on the Lord, we can be content no matter what we face. Whatever our circumstances, whether we’re in a season of deprivation or abundance, God gives us his strength to endure, to choose to rest in him, and to experience contentment and perhaps even a touch of joy.

Notice that Paul didn’t say we could find contentment in tough circumstances in our own strength. Contentment is a gift from the Lord. Only when we turn to Christ in humility, aware of our weakness and asking for his strength, will we be able to learn contentment. He may help us realize how blessed we actually are. He might open our hearts to the fact that we are rich in God’s love and grace whatever our situation. And we can definitely know contentment in the blessing of Jesus’ presence with us.

Lord, you are the reason I can be content anytime, anywhere, and I am grateful, amen.
