“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Matthew 28:20
What words of comfort for his disciples whose world had been turned upside down!
The risen Jesus spoke these words to his disciples before he ascended into heaven. This promise was and is a solid rock of truth they could build their lives on just as you and I can. Then, on the Day of Pentecost, the disciples received the gift of the Holy Spirit and first experienced Jesus’ new way of being present with them. As the disciples spread the good news, they did so in their Lord’s strength.
Fast-forward over two thousand years. The Holy Spirit has continued to work through Christ followers who continued to share the gospel with others. And now this promise uttered to the disciples is spoken over you.
Think about that amazing promise: you are never alone, and Jesus will never leave you. That’s true when you are sharing the gospel, but it’s also true when troubles threaten to overwhelm. What a great promise from God!
Lord, help me to realize afresh that you are near and you won’t leave me, amen.
