Beautiful Word Devotional #54
Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”
Matthew 22:37
Jesus longs for us to love him with everything we are—our heart, soul, and mind. What does that mean in practical terms? The easiest way to explain this kind of all-encompassing love is to look at the life of Brother Lawrence. He served in a Carmelite monastery in the 1600s, and he is best known for “practicing the presence of God.”
This meant that all throughout the day, he maintained a continual conversation with God. He thanked God that he had the ability to do dishes for his glory. He interacted with God while he swept. He tried to view the world through God-colored glasses.
So, loving God with all your heart, soul, and mind is as simple as cultivating a continual conversation with Jesus all day long. Despite life’s responsibilities and distractions, you can still choose to connect with Jesus right now. He will welcome you as you practice being aware of his presence with you!
Lord, I do want to love you with everything within me. Teach me how to have a continual conversation with you today, amen.
