Beautiful Word Devotional #73

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

Psalm 91:1

Visitors don’t dwell. Out-of-town guests don’t dwell. Those whose name is on the lease or on the check that pays the mortgage dwell. Dwellers also make the beds, do the laundry, prepare the meals, love the people who share the address.

The psalmist wants you to know that same kind of daily connection to God. Make God your spiritual dwelling place and be mindful of his presence with you in your earthly dwelling. So talk to him as you make beds, do laundry, cook dinner, and love your family.

Furthermore, when you make God your dwelling place, you will find the rest you’ve been longing for—under God’s shadow.

Are you feeling weak today? Scattered? Untethered? Does God seem far away? Invite him into the mundane of your day, trusting that he will give you both the strength and, later, the rest you need.

Lord, I want to dwell with you today, enjoying your presence and relying on your power, amen.
