If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

2 Corinthians 5:17

Satan would like us to think that we can never change—that we’ll keep doing the same bad things or that we’ll never overcome that obstacle that’s held us back for years. Don’t buy into his lie.

The gospel of Jesus Christ is about renewal, as is today’s verse. Anyone who is “in Christ” is a new creation. You are utterly changed from who you were before you knew him. Because of the cross, God’s Spirit is at work within you, making you more like Jesus. That means you can more easily choose to do the right thing, to love hard-to-love people, and to step into the purpose God has for you.

What a joy-filled truth: you are a new creation! And the reality of this newness is not based on how you act or how you feel. No, it is based on Jesus Christ, who never changes, who always loves, who always empowers. Ask him to help you live in light of your renewal today.

Lord, remind me of the certainty of my newness in Christ and empower me to live in that reality today, amen.
