Beautiful Word Devotional #84

[God] said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

2 Corinthians 12:9

By all estimations, the apostle Paul seems to have been a super-Christian. He preached throughout the Mediterranean, started churches, and wrote a big portion of the New Testament—and he survived stoning, floggings, shipwrecks, beating, hunger, and imprisonment for his faith.

We also know that Paul suffered from “a thorn in [the] flesh” that God allowed (v. 7). Scholars are uncertain what this could be. The great apostle Paul had to learn the valuable lesson that sometimes we need difficulties to keep us humble and dependent on God. Sometimes God allows these thorns so that we’ll turn to him. We can be powerful —in God’s strength—only when we know our weakness.

So today, if you’re feeling weak and needy, if there are thorns aplenty, know that you can turn to God and receive his strength.

Lord, I am tired of being tormented by this thorn, so I choose to turn to you. I am going to rely on you to be the strength in my weakness, amen.
