Burnout - Bible Promises for Moms

Burnout

I had spoken eight times in thirty hours and then just barely caught my flight back to the Pacific Northwest. After nine hours in the air and a two-hour layover, I was close to home at last, grateful that my husband was driving along the nearly deserted I-5 freeway at midnight on a Sunday night. The last half hour on the plane had given me a chance to collect my thoughts and get my to-do list ready for Monday morning. My heart sank as I mentally reviewed the laundry, homeschooling, shopping, and the dozen other things waiting to be done at home when it hit me: I was running on fumes. Tears filled my eyes—until I heard the gentle voice of the Holy Spirit saying, “Stop and rest.”

Do you need to stop and rest? Most moms I know run on fumes from time to time—and here’s the thing we need to remember: the Lord is faithful to provide us with times of refreshment when we are faithful to listen for His voice. Sometimes we simply need to draw away from the tyranny of all that needs to be done and spend some time alone with God. He is faithful. Instead of rushing right into my to-do list, I quieted my heart. Taking time to slow down and listen for the voice of God can change your perspective and renew your spirit. Are you burned out? God says, “Be still.”

WHEN YOUR MOTHER-HEART NEEDS TO SLOW DOWN . . .

God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from all his work of creation.

Genesis 2:3

Those who trust in the LORD will find new strength.

They will soar high on wings like eagles.

They will run and not grow weary.

They will walk and not faint.

Isaiah 40:31

Jesus said, “Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile.” He said this because there were so many people coming and going that Jesus and his apostles didn’t even have time to eat.

So they left by boat for a quiet place, where they could be alone.

Mark 6:31-32
