Priorities - Bible Promises for Moms
Priorities
“Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness” (Matthew 6:33, ESV). These nine words are so simple, yet they take a lifetime to master, because the tyranny of the urgent is always seeking to scramble our priorities. I love the words of the German writer Goethe who said, “Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least.” That sums it up nicely, doesn’t it? While the temptation is to focus on knowledge instead of character in raising our children, we know that in the end, it’s character that matters most. I have more days than I care to admit when my daily planner has twenty hours of activities penciled into twelve available hours. It’s on these days especially that I need to prioritize time with God. By reading His Word and spending time in prayer, I affirm my priorities as His daughter. Reread the story of the sisters Martha and Mary found in Luke 10. Martha was so very, very busy that she missed the opportunity to be with Jesus. Are you a Martha, or are you a Mary? If we don’t get our priorities right, our life will simply be a series of frantic, last-minute choices rather than the result of a devoted life of divine priorities. Busy mom . . . purpose to spend time with God today and ask Him to help prioritize your day.
WHEN YOU NEED TO KNOW THE HIGH VALUE GOD PLACES ON TAKING CARE OF OUR OWN . . .
If a man cannot manage his own household, how can he take care of God’s church?
Those who won’t care for their relatives, especially those in their own household, have denied the true faith. Such people are worse than unbelievers.
WHEN YOU NEED TO TEACH YOUR CHILDREN THAT PLEASING GOD IS OUR FIRST PRIORITY . . .
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
WHEN YOU NEED TO ASSESS WHERE YOUR HEART IS . . .
Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
