For Restoring Hope - Called to Pray

For Restoring Hope

DURING WORLD WAR II, an unknown Jew, hiding from the Nazis in Germany, scratched this hope-filled prayer into the wall of a cellar:

I believe in the sun even when it is not shining.

I believe in love even when feeling it not.

I believe in God even when He is silent.

In the midst of the horrors of the Holocaust, this person chose to believe in God and the beauty that life had to offer. He or she was determined to hold on to hope.

If your life experiences have changed the way you see God and life in general, you can believe again. Your prayers can speak hope back into hopelessness and declare the restoration of spiritual light. Even in your darkest hour, you can believe.

Deeply distressed, the prophet Jeremiah chose hope: “GOD’s loyal love couldn’t have run out, his merciful love couldn’t have dried up. They’re created new every morning. . . . I’m sticking with God. (I say it over and over.)” (Lamentations 3:22-24, MSG).

STRENGTH IN THE WORD

I still have hope.

Ruth 1:12, NCV

TODAY I DECLARE

I will rise above this sorrow.

PRAYERFUL THOUGHTS

Dear Lord,

When will my sorrows be lifted? It feels like I’m carrying the weight of the world. It’s hard to see hope when sorrow fills my eyes, but I still believe in you.

Please lift me out of this depression. If it lasts longer, I may not be able to cope. Help me see light at the end of this road.

Lord, I’ll always believe in you.

In Jesus’ name, amen.

KEEPSAKE
