Creator, Father, King #22

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

PEOPLE ARE INTRIGUED BY chance.

Each year, approximately forty million people visit Las Vegas and spend billions on gambling. Yes, you read that correctly—billions of dollars. It’s a staggering amount of money for games where randomness rules and most people lose more than they win.

Incredibly, many people credit chance as the “creator” of the universe. Thanks to Charles Darwin’s infamous book, On the Origin of Species, which espoused the theory of evolution, and other spurious hypotheses such as the “Big Bang Theory,” multitudes around the world believe that human life is a product of cosmic randomness. In America, evolution has become so engrained in our culture that public schools teach it as fact rather than theory.

But if we’re honest, human experience and observation tell us otherwise. So does Scripture. We look again to the very first verse of the Bible: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

What’s It Mean?

Go outside and look around you. Look at the grass, trees, and sky. Remember the last time you were at the zoo and the incredible array of animals you witnessed. Consider the snow-peaked mountains, vast oceans, lush rain forests, and fiery volcanoes that populate our planet. Contemplate the countless stars that you can see on a cloudless night and the way the planets in our solar system work in perfect orbital harmony together around the sun.

Is this a product of chance and randomness?

Absolutely not.

The world is one of order and design, down to smallest atoms. Romans 1:20 declares, “For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.”

In other words, the entire universe speaks—no, screams!—each day of God’s existence and his creative handiwork. A loving Creator spoke this world into being in great love and power.

As for the possibility of random Darwinian evolution?

No chance.

Now What?

Read Psalms 8, 19, 104, and 139. They testify to God’s creative power in forming various parts of the universe.
