Daily Power #106

Daily Power #106

We have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives. (Col. 1:9)

When Amy and I were dating, we were both committed to keeping our relationship with each other sexually pure because of our relationship with God. While this wasn’t easy, we also learned that there are other ways that we could grow closer to one another and share intimacy. One of the healthiest intimacy-building things we did—and still do—was to pray together.

As uncomfortable as it can be, praying with another person can also be a very intimate experience—and maybe that’s why it’s scary and sometimes feels awkward. When you pray with another person, you’re not just sharing words and information with them. You’re revealing everything about yourself—your struggles, needs, hopes, and dreams. Shared prayer has a way of bonding people together toward common goals for God’s kingdom.

When we commit to pray for someone else, we’re sharing their burdens and offering to make their needs known before our Father. God already knows their needs, of course, but our participation through prayer benefits us as much as it benefits them. Aligning our hearts in prayer with another person changes us. Prayer not only gives us access to the most powerful force in existence but also connects us with other people.

Power Lift

Lord, I’m so grateful that you allow me to share my needs as well as those of others. Today I lift up the needs of the special people in my life. Please also give me the courage to invite them to join me.
