Daily Power #169

Daily Power #169

For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace. (Rom. 6:14)

Did you ever read Superman as a kid, or at least see one of the movies? You may remember that his only weakness was Kryptonite, chunks of rock and debris that came from his home planet, Krypton. In the old comic books, Kryptonite was originally green and instantly drained Superman of all his powers. But then some writers got creative and started coming up with different varieties of Kryptonite. The red variety had random, wacky effects, sometimes causing him to mutate into animals or insects. The black kind changed his personality and caused psychological problems. Ultimately, though, they all reduced the Man of Steel’s powers and made him weaker.

That’s what sin does to us. Although it takes various colors, shapes, and sizes, sin saps our strength and shrinks our faith. Some people struggle with financial sins—greed, gambling, overspending. Others wrestle with sexual immorality and physical addictions. For some, it might be controlling their anger or resisting gossip. Or maybe it’s struggling with online idolatry—wasting precious hours envying others on various social media sites.

Regardless of your personal Kryptonite, you don’t have to be a superhero to overcome it. Jesus has already defeated all your sins. He is the source of your strength no matter what temptation comes your way.

Remember, there is no temptation greater that is than his grace. When you are weak, he is strong.
