Daily Power #227
You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. (Ps. 63:1)
They call them the “dog days” of summer, those weeks when the temperatures soar and make it impossible to enjoy being outside for long. The air scorches our nostrils, the heat burns our skin, and the pavement sizzles beneath our feet. You know cooler weather will come eventually, but in the meantime, you’re sweating buckets.
Sometimes our spiritual lives feel this way, dry and desolate, without any rain from heaven in sight. We feel alone and rejected, misunderstood and isolated. We feel afraid and wonder how we got to this place—and how long it will last.
I didn’t think my life was going to turn out like this, we lament. I didn’t think I’ d be at this place in my life right now. I feel stuck and unable to move forward. Everyone around me seems to be enjoying their lives, but I don’t know how I’ll ever experience God’s joy and peace again. My heart is like a parched desert.
You want to talk to someone, but you’re not sure who will understand. While talking to other believers can be encouraging, only God can provide you with the Living Water your soul craves. Nothing else will satisfy you.
Cry out to God when your soul feels dry. He will refresh you and satisfy the deep longing within.
Power Lift
God, I don’t even know what to pray when I start feeling dry and stuck in a rut. Meet me where I am today, Lord. Refresh my spirit and revive my faith.
