Daily Power #276

They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers. (Acts 1:14)

Have you noticed the massive difference between praying for someone and praying with someone? Praying for someone is powerful, meaningful, and special. Praying with someone is all that—and so much more.

For example, if I’m hurting and you send me a text, “Praying for ya,” that will mean a lot to me. If I’ve got a big presentation to make at work and you lean over and tell me you prayed for me earlier in the morning, I’ll be sincerely grateful. If I’ve got a decision to make and you remind me that you will pray before you go to sleep, I will find confidence in your promise.

But you could do more than just pray for me. You could choose to pray with me. If I’m hurting and you stop what you are doing and grab my hands to pray, that prayer just went to another level. If we are on a call and you stop the conversation and say, “Can we pray right now?” It’s likely my faith will be moved in a significant way.

Sure, praying with someone can feel awkward. At times praying with others might even be intimidating. But once you start, I can assure you that you will sense God’s presence and the words will begin to flow.

If the opportunity presents itself, consider taking prayer to the next level. Don’t just pray for someone. Pray with them.

I’m so grateful for the many other people who pray for me, Lord. Today I want to spend a few minutes lifting them up even as I look forward to the next time we can pray together.
