Daily Power #285

Set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity. (1 Tim. 4:12)

Now more than ever, others see and hear you more than you realize. Whether intended or not, a careless comment, thoughtless tweet, or prideful status update can give others a negative impression—or worse, hurt their perception of God in some way. While our culture encourages everyone to broadcast their lives on social media as a personal reality show, we would often be more impactful to think before we click.

It’s tempting, too, with so many people posting, tweeting, and commenting, to think that it’s no big deal what you say, post, or pin. But keep in mind that hundreds, even thousands, of people may base their understanding of the gospel on what they see reflected in your online presence.

I’m not encouraging you to be artificial and sprinkle a bunch of phrases like “God bless you!” and “To God be the glory!” all over social media. I’m just hoping you realize that when we connect online, we’re communicating who we are and what we believe. Just as we make mistakes in real life, we will also misstep with technology. But when you’re mindful of all who see you online, you can think twice before posting.

Today ask God for wisdom about how to reflect him with your online presence.
