Daily Power #289

Wisdom, like an inheritance, is a good thing and benefits those who see the sun. (Eccl. 7:11)

My parents always wanted to know where I would be and who I would be with when I was growing up. They always said I would be known by the company I keep. I knew what they meant, but it wasn’t until I was a parent myself that I fully believed them. Suddenly, like many “helicopter parents,” I wanted to know who my kids were with and what they were doing. And it wasn’t nearly as easy as I thought it would be.

On one hand, I wanted them to be loving, kind, and accepting toward all their peers and classmates. On the other, I wanted them to develop discernment about who was trustworthy and who was not. So I tried to teach them about patterns of behavior, what it means when someone does what they say they will do, and about seeking God for wisdom.

Even as adults, we often overlook seeking God’s wisdom regarding the people we should invest our time in. Some are obvious, like our families, coworkers, and certain friends. But others may be more challenging. Obviously, we should seek out fellowship and community with other believers. But if we only hang out with other Christians, then we will likely miss opportunities to share our faith with the people who need it most.

This is why asking God for his wisdom about our relationships is so important.

Today ask God to direct you to the people you need to invest in.
