Daily Power #311

But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory. (Heb. 3:6)

Our family was recently looking through old photos—the kind we took with a camera, not a phone, and had developed at a drugstore. We laughed at some obvious fashion mistakes we had all made but also marveled at how faithful God has been to us. When our kids, who are now mostly grown, looked at the first house Amy and I ever lived in, they couldn’t believe just how good God has been to us. One of my daughters laughed and said, “It’s a good thing we don’t all live there now.”

Looking at these pictures of where we used to live got us talking about “dream homes” and where we would live if we could choose anywhere in the world. Amy wanted someplace close enough and big enough for visits from the kids and future grandkids, while I was thinking about something more remote, like maybe a cabin in the mountains or a little place on a beach.

How about you—what’s your dream home? No matter what kind of house you might live in, the good news is that nothing here on earth can compare with our heavenly home. This verse tells us that Jesus rules over God’s house and that we maintain it through our courage, faith, and hope. Why? Because we are God’s house. He dwells in us and transforms our lives.

Give thanks today for where you live right now but also for the place being prepared for you after this life is over.

Power Lift

Lord, I’m so grateful that one day I will dwell with you in heaven after my life here has ended.
