Daily Power #338

“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.” (Mal. 3:10)

After my grandmother surprised me with my little Honda Accord, she created a ripple effect she could never have imagined. At the time I had several thousand dollars saved for a car, and because I was committed to paying in cash, I was saving up for the rest. After being given a car, I decided to use the money to purchase a tiny older home as my first rental house.

As a result of God’s faithfulness after I started tithing, it wasn’t long before I bought another small house. By the time I graduated from college, I had four small rental units. When we started the church, there was almost no money to pay me a salary, so we lived mostly off the income from those rental properties. I can literally trace every financial blessing we have today back to my very first tithe. When we give God our first and our best, we can trust him to bless the rest.

Now, I’m not saying that if you tithe, you’re going to get a new car and rent houses. What I am saying is that God proves himself faithful. Today’s verse is the only place in all of Scripture where God encourages us to test him. No matter how much we give, we will never out-give our Father.

Lord, help me to be as generous as you are with your children. Give me wisdom about how to be the best manager of the resources you’ve given me.
