Daily Power #341

“In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” (Acts 20:35)

Early in our marriage, we had a problem with our car and took it to the mechanic. After examining it, the man explained to me how much it would cost to do the repair. Many people would have said it wasn’t terribly expensive. But at that point in our young financial lives, any amount was too much.

But I was in for an even bigger surprise than the cost of the repair. The mechanic explained that his daughter had recommitted her life to Christ at our church. As an act of gratitude, he wanted to do this repair for us for no charge at all! I think I danced right there in front of him. It was a massive blessing to receive.

Years later, I found myself at an auto repair shop again. This time I saw a young mom with small children get the news of what it would cost to repair her minivan. She burst into tears and slipped to the side to call her husband, obviously panicking.

So I discreetly approached the guy at the counter and said I’d like to cover the cost anonymously. After paying, I slipped quietly back to my seat. When the mom reappeared, the guy explained, “Good news! Your repair is free.” She looked confused. He said, “Uh, it’s buy-one-get-one-free day. The last guy bought one, so yours is free.”

She cried even harder than before, overwhelmed with joy.

It is always more blessed to give than to receive. Look for ways to bless others today with your generosity.
