Daily Power #345

Daily Power #345

But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.” (Luke 1:30–31)

Can you imagine going about your daily routine when suddenly an angel shows up? And how thoughtful of the angel to tell you not to be afraid because you’ve found favor with God. Sort of like being called to the principal’s office not for misbehaving but for good conduct. But then the angel drops the bomb—“Oh, and by the way, you’re going to get pregnant and have a baby boy, and you should name him Jesus.”

Somehow, though, Mary kept her cool even when she didn’t understand how she would conceive without being with a man. She was a virgin and had clearly honored God and found favor with him by having a heart devoted to him. But I doubt she had any idea just how big a role God had in mind for her. This was it—the moment the Jewish people, and people across history, had been waiting for—the birth of the Messiah.

Even without knowing all the details of what would follow, Mary still said yes. Instead of making excuses and asking dozens of questions, like you or I might have done, Mary embraced the role God had for her. She was willing. She surrendered her will to her Master’s.

As you go through your daily routine today, look for how God wants to use you in his story.
